• Douglas Hamberger of Germantown was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Shippensburg (Pa.) University.

To qualify, students must earn a quality point average of at least 3.5 for the semester.

• Mary Gillespie was named to the spring semester dean’s list at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. Gillespie graduated from the global ecology program at Poolesville High School and is studying history at George Mason. She also made the fall semester dean’s list.

• Daquan Sampson of Germantown graduated from the Lawrence Academy in Groton, Mass.

The son of Shawnta and Kurtis Sampson of Germantown, Sampson was on the academic honor roll throughout his senior year and also was a proctor in his dormitory.

He played basketball for the Spartans, making honorable mention from the Independent School League in each of his two seasons. He appeared in several solo and group dance performances.

Sampson also participated in an internship during which he worked with the Wounded Warrior Project at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda.

He plans to attend Endicott College in the fall, where he also will play basketball.

• Li-Chieh Mao of Germantown recently received a bachelor of business administration degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.

• Joshua H. Gutjahr and Ian R. Hallman were recently named to the dean’s list for the second semester of the 2012-13 academic year at the Virginia Military Institute.

Gutjahr, a freshman from Boyds, is majoring in mechanical engineering. He is the son of Col. Robert G. Gutjahr and Col. Melanie M. Hedrick.

Hallman, a sophomore from Poolesville, is a history major. He is the son of Andrew P. Hallman and Kim A. Hallman.

• The following Germantown and Poolesville residents graduated May 19 from Hood College in Frederick:

Genna Kamilton, Christina Leondarides-Mena, Rafael Masonm, Carly Oeller, Lindsay Ray, Sally Ruiz and Juan Toscano-Madrid of Germantown and William Lewis of Poolesville received bachelor’s degrees.

Amy Llewellyn, Rosario Velasquez and Heng Xu of Germantown, and Tracee Staples and Stephanie Yarmas received Master of Science degrees.

Kevin Nielsen and Tsvetana Papinova of Germantown received Master of Business Administration degrees.
