Two individuals have been released from the hospital after a deck collapsed in Chesapeake Beach on Wednesday.

The deck collapsed in the 3000 block of Cox Road in Chesapeake Beach just after 7 p.m. Wednesday, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Steve Jones said Friday.

Jones said he suspects the group of 10 people who were standing on the deck, located on the second story of the house, were participating in Fourth of July festivities and the structure could not support the weight.

Two individuals sustained non-life threatening injuries, were stabilized and released from the hospital, Jones said, adding that the sheriff’s office responded with personnel because deputies were close by for the Chesapeake Beach fireworks show Wednesday night.

The sheriff’s office is not investigating the situation, but Jones said he believes the structural component of the house will be investigated as a result of the incident.
