Public to expect increased police presence through Saturday, July 13
St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputies began four days of training Wednesday morning at Evergreen Elementary School in Wildewood to prepare the law officers on how to respond to and neutralize an armed gunman.
The public should expect to see an increased police presence in the area from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day through next Saturday, July 13, according to the sheriff’s office, as the law officers train within the school and on its grounds, without impacting business conducted at the school.
The training continues ongoing joint efforts by the sheriff’s office and St. Mary’s board of education to evaluate and strengthen emergency response protocols, to ensure the safety of the children in the county.
