Poolesville High School student Haley Johnson didn’t have to be elected to her spot in Washington, D.C.: She was appointed by judges.
Johnson recently was selected as the winner of the annual Congressional Art Competition for the 6th Congressional District, represented by John Delaney (D) of Potomac.
Johnson’s photo “Ugandan Child” will be displayed around Washington, along with those of winners from other congressional districts.
Since 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have been recognized through the Congressional Art Competition.
“Haley’s photograph is alive with color, dramatic and touching, and captivating to the viewer,” Delaney said in a statement. “Haley is a fantastic representative of the young artistic talent in our district and I look forward to seeing more of her work in the future.”
