The Maryland State Police are investigating an accident on U.S. 301 that killed a pedestrian early Thursday morning.
According to information provided by MSP, at 1:10 a.m. Aug. 1, a Toyota driven by Peter Ross, 61, of Indian Head was headed north on the highway right before Jaybee Lane in White Plains when it struck a woman who was standing in the northbound lane while it was raining.

The woman’s body was sent to the chief medical examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
Ross remained on the scene and was not injured.
MSP is working on identifying the woman who was hit. According to police, she was white, approximately 30 to 40 years old, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighed 150 pounds and had brown hair.
The investigation is continuing.
According to police, several businesses and neighborhoods were checked with negative results in an attempt to identify the woman.
