The National Park Service at the Thomas Stone National Historic Site and the Southern Maryland Astronomical Society will hold a free star party 9 p.m. Aug. 17.

Astronomical equipment will be provided to observe the moon, planets and stars. Groups such as Scout troops are welcome. The event is weather permitting only and will be canceled in the event of clouds and/or rain.

The Thomas Stone site is at 6655 Rose Hill Road, Port Tobacco.
