A Leonardtown area woman was jailed Saturday on burglary and assault charges filed in court papers alleging she went into a man’s home off Medley’s Neck Road the night before and used a knife to repeatedly stab him in the leg.
A court commissioner ordered that Wendy Jo Wilcox, 37, be held in jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.
Police responding at about 9:15 p.m. Friday to the residence of Claude Richard Carpenter II found him bleeding heavily from the five wounds in his right leg, according to a statement of probable cause filed by St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputy Artina Manns.
Carpenter told police that he was lying in bed watching television, court papers state, when the suspect, who is known to him, came into his home through an unlocked door.
Witnesses told police that Wilcox said “I did what I had to do,” as she left the residence and wiped the blade of the bloody knife on the grass outside, according to charging papers. Carpenter was treated at a hospital for his injuries.
