A Great Mills man was jailed Monday in lieu of $75,000 bond on charging papers alleging he took out a knife and chased an employee of the Big Lots store in Lexington Park through the business, threatening to kill him, until a manager grabbed the armed suspect.

Police responded to the store shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday, court papers state, and they later found the suspect, 23-year-old Zachary Micah Sawyer, in the area of a former girlfriend’s home on Spring Valley Court.

Sawyer was charged with committing a first-degree assault on Big Lots employee Adrian McWorther, who told police that he currently dates Sawyer’s former girlfriend, according to a statement of probable cause filed by Trooper Wayne Couter of the Maryland State Police.

Susan Moreno, a manager at the store, grabbed Sawyer’s arm that was wielding the knife, court papers state, and she told him to leave the store.
