A Ridge man was arrested Monday and detained on charging papers alleging he beat a girlfriend the day before with a mop handle, before she briefly left their home and returned to find that her 10-month-old son had suffered a fractured hip.
A court commissioner ordered that John Francis Dorsey Jr., 25, be held in custody in lieu of $15,000 bond on the charges of child abuse and two offenses of second-degree assault.
A public defender said in court Wednesday that Dorsey will contest the charges.
