The Darnestown chapter of an international women’s organization recently awarded a $1,800 grant to a Silver Spring nursing student.

The Darnestown chapter of Philanthropic Educational Organization International, an organization that supports educational opportunities for women, gave the grant to Dale Willett.

Willett is a nursing student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and hopes to join the emergency medicine department of a hospital after she earns her nursing degree.

She would like to work with critical care patients.

The nonprofit has 40 chapters in Maryland and more than 250,000 members in the U.S. and Canada.

The grant was presented to Willett by Darnestown chapter President Elaine Lohrman of Rockville and Christine Whitten of Germantown, chairwoman of the chapter’s Program for Continuing Education.
