A Temple Hills woman sustained minor injuries in an accident that sent her car into a Waldorf lake Tuesday afternoon.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported that at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, a 25-year-old woman was traveling north on St. Charles Parkway in a 2010 Hyundai. As she passed St. Thomas Drive, police reported, she lost control of the car and struck a tree. The car caromed 50 to 60 feet off the tree into a nearby lake. The car was submerged in 5 feet of water.

The woman was able to crawl out of the window, and when sheriff’s officers arrived, she was in waist-deep water and eventually walked out of the lake. She was taken to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata with injuries that were not life-threatening, police reported.

Police believe she was texting on her cellphone at the time of the crash.
