Pronounced dead on the scene, taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Tuesday morning accident in which a man was killed after the vehicle he was driving collided with a Mack truck in Huntingtown.
At about 3 a.m. Sept. 10, members of the sheriff’s office responded to a report of a car accident at Solomons Island Road and Northwest Drive, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
Police determined a 2003 Ford F150 pick-up truck, driven by Nicholas Paul Stup Sr., 34, of Huntingtown, was traveling south through a construction zone, which consisted of cones dividing the left and right lanes on Route 2/4, approaching Northwest Drive.
The Ford hit a 1995 Mack dump truck, driven by Rex Eugene Jones, 52, of Huntingtown, as the Mack truck was reducing speed to merge into the left lane where the construction was to take place. The Ford came to a stop shortly after, the press release states.
Stup was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS personnel and taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital, where he was examined by a forensic investigator, police said.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by Dfc. J. Hardesty of the sheriff’s office Accident Reconstruction Team.
