Laurel’s St. Mary of the Mills held a picnic and groundbreaking ceremony for its new Main Street parish center on Sept. 8.
The new $7 million parish center, located in the heart of downtown Laurel, will be named the Kessler Center, according to a news release from parish bookkeeper Beth Weant.
“The Kessler Center is being named after the late Msgr. Robert Keesler, who served the Laurel community for over 40 years, and will be fashioned after the old mills that were a part of historic Laurel,” Weant said in the release.
Parish officials estimate the center will be completed by late fall.
