The Southern Maryland Ospreys softball team, the Eastern Regional tournament runner-up, traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the World Fastpitch Connection Summer Nationals World Series, which was played Aug. 6 to 10.

The Ospreys played Buckeye Elite (Ohio) for the championship and lost 5-3. They played nine games in the tournament and finished with a record of 5-3-1. The tie was a 7-all draw to Buckeye Elite to begin the tournament.

The team beat the Coastal Cyclones three times, the Lady Wizards once and the Florence Fury once.

In the front row are Jasmine Smith, Emma Evans, Olivia Ford, Rachel Buffin and Alison Eichel. In the back row are coach Chris Doerrer, coach Lee Bassett, Courtney Bell, Jasmyn Ogletree, Ashleigh Head, Diana Cruz, Chloe Day and manager Al Ogletree.

Jasmine Smith, left, was the fastest on the bases with a home-to-home time of 10.7 seconds, while Jasmyn Ogletree won the tournament’s home run derby, having one more home run than 27 other contestants.
