Germantown Holy Cross Hospital to open in 2014 -- Gazette.Net

Holy Cross Hospital in Germantown is one year away from its grand opening, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The 93-bed facility is the first hospital to be built in the county in 35 years. Holy Cross Hospital spokeswoman Yolanda Gaskins said construction started in July 2012 and continues today.

The proposal for the hospital was approved in 2012 with a groundbreaking on Dec. 8, but construction was delayed by a technical issue related to the plan approval process.

Adventist HealthCare had a competing proposal for a new hospital in Clarksburg, but the Maryland Health Care Commission decided in Holy Cross’s favor. Adventist HealthCare has leased space at Clarksburg Village Center for a new primary care center with other medical services.

Holy Cross Hospital will have a partnership with Montgomery College where students and faculty can work with health care professionals on campus, Montgomery College Germantown Provost Sanjay Rai said. The college is preparing to accommodate a larger student body and integrate the hospital into its existing programs, Rai said. A 120,000-square-foot bioscience facility currently under construction on campus will be open in the fall of 2013.

Germantown’s Holy Cross Hospital will be six stories high and accessible through Observation Drive.
