Region sees first influenza case of the season -- Gazette.Net

The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene announced Thursday that the first laboratory-confirmed case of influenza of the season was identified in a child from the “National Capital Region,” who was briefly hospitalized and is now recovering.

Prior to the start of the 2013-2014 flu season — which began on Sept. 29 — Suburban Hospital in Bethesda also treated one adult patient for influenza in early September, spokeswoman Ronna Borenstein-Levy said. No further information was available for this case.

Last year, the first flu case of the season was reported on Oct. 19.
