St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputies shot and wounded a man during their response Monday morning to a domestic violence call in Lexington Park’s Southampton community, the county sheriff said, and additional people at the residence also were injured.

The shot man was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter crew to the Prince George’s Hospital Center to be treated for non-life-threatening wounds, according to the sheriff’s office. None of the officers at the scene were hurt, during their response to the 6:30 a.m. call that the assailant in the assault was armed with a knife.

“There are also victims who were taken to [MedStar] St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” Sheriff Tim Cameron (R) said later Monday at his agency’s headquarters in Leonardtown. “I don’t know what [the injuries are], ... if they are a result of an assault by the accused, or if they were injured by gunfire.”

Sheriff’s detectives and internal-affairs officers continued their investigation at midday Monday.
