Prince George’s County police have identified a body found near a burning vehicle earlier this week as Sydna Ann McCracken, 53, of Laurel.

McCracken’s body was discovered Nov. 13 near a burning car on Brock Ridge Road near Laurel after county fire/EMS crews put out the fire, said Lt. William Alexander, a Prince George’s County Police spokesman.

Preliminary findings indicate the car fire was likely a result of an auto accident after the vehicle hit a tree, Alexander said. Police are still gathering information, but at this point it looks like a “tragic” auto accident involving a single vehicle, Alexander said.

The cause of death was not immediately available as the police are waiting results of a toxicology report, Alexander said.
