A Mechanicsville man was killed Monday night, police report, when he tried to walk across a highway in the path of a pickup truck.

Roland Philip Tucker, 52, died at the scene of the 7:55 p.m. accident, according to the St. Mary’s sheriff’s office. Tucker was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Three Notch Road, near an intersection with New Market Turner Road, the sheriff’s office reports, and he failed to yield the right of way to the 2011 Ford F-150 truck operated by Paul Downs of California. No other injuries were reported.

Neither alcohol nor other drugs, or the truck’s speed, are considered to be factors in the accident, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office has requested that anyone with information on the accident contact sheriff’s Cpl. Brian Connelly at 301-475-4200, ext. 9010.
