A judge ordered this week that a Leonardtown woman remain in jail in lieu of $50,000 bond on charges alleging she repeatedly struck two young children last weekend at a residence in the town, before she ran outside as a witness called police.

Linda R. Pearson, 21, was charged with two offenses of second-degree child abuse and second-degree assault from Saturday’s incident, and court papers state that law officers responding to the scene found bruises on the two toddlers.

Pearson also was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Police took her to a hospital, where her screams were heard throughout the emergency room, and she struck one nurse in the face while “kicking her feet wildly,” according to a statement of probable cause filed by St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputy Matthew Pleisse.
