A Mechanicsville man remained in jail this week after his arrest Friday on charging papers alleging he took $632 from a cash register at a California liquor store earlier that day after telling an employee that there was a leak in the store’s refrigerator.

Randy A. Boarman, 27, was charged with robbery and a theft offense from the incident at Jugheads Liquors at the Laurel Glen shopping center, through the investigation by St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputy Kenneth Flerlage. The store employee told police that she chased the culprit out of the business, court papers state, and additional witnesses directed law officers to an area where Boarman had tried to catch a ride from a passing motorist.

A court commissioner ordered Saturday that Boarman be held in lieu of $15,000 bond.
