Young Poolesville actor hits the big time on ‘Modern Family’ -- Gazette.Net

Aspiring actor and Poolesville teen Zachary Conneen racked up another big achievement last week with an appearance on the television show “Modern Family.”

Conneen, 15, attends Poolesville High School. He got the acting bug at age 6, when he saw a children’s perfomance of “Annie,” according to his mother, Denise Conneen.

“He said that it looked really cool to be on stage and wanted to try it,” she said.

The following year, he auditioned and landed a role in a local children’s production of “Seussical.” After that, he was a regular performer with the Kensington Arts Theater Program. The exposure later got him a meeting with a Los Angeles talent agency, where he signed a contract and got minor roles in television shows “The Middle” and “Community.”

In an episode of “Modern Family” that aired Dec. 4, Zachary played the role of Justin Miller, a mean-spirited classmate of Manny and Luke.

Zachary said he’s had experience as a bully character in other productions, but he wasn’t a regular viewer of the show when he auditioned for the part.

“I was watching like three episodes a day on Netflix to catch up,” he said.

The high school freshman said living in California for months at a time has been difficult, but his family has adapted to its moves between Poolesville and Hollywood. He hopes to return to Los Angeles for more auditions in February.
