Fifteen people, all underage, were arrested for possession of drugs after the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of underage drinking and possible drug use Saturday at the Solomons Holiday Inn Conference Center & Marina.
At about 8:39 p.m., personnel at the Holiday Inn in Solomons contacted the sheriff’s office regarding what they believed was an underage drinking party with possible drug use in one of the hotel rooms, according to a sheriff’s office police blotter issued Monday.
“It was a bunch of kids in the room,” Capt. Steve Jones of the sheriff’s office said Tuesday of what several officers found when they went to the hotel. “[It was] believed there was an underage drinking party with marijuana,” he said, adding that several possession of controlled dangerous substance arrests were made.
Jones said the group had been at the hotel for about 30 to 45 minutes before police arrived. Dfc. R. Wilson, Dfc. J. Morgan, Dfc. W. Wells and Cpl. G. Shrawder found 11 juveniles and four adults in the room, according to the police report. All were taken away from the scene and arrested for possession of drugs, the report states. Jones said it is unknown how the alcohol was obtained.
Precious T. Young, 18, of Laurel, Monica R. Jefferson, 18, of Lusby, Bernard D. Gibson, 20, of Laurel and Cornay S. Johnson, 19, of Lusby were taken to the Calvert County Detention Center, and each were charged with possession of marijuana less than 10 grams and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia: a metal grinder, Jones said.
Six male juveniles, ranging in age from 13 to 17, and five females, ranging in age from 11 to 17, all from Prince Frederick, Lusby, Lexington Park, Port Republic, Mechanicsville and Laurel, were taken to the sheriff’s office, and each were charged with the same offenses on youth reports and released to parents, according to the sheriff’s office’s report of the incident. Jones said some of the individuals had previous offenses.
