The body of a maintenance worker at Point Lookout State Park was found Monday morning at the base of a ladder in the facility’s wastewater treatment plant, state authorities report, the day after the Calvert County resident did not return home from work.

No foul play is suspected in the death of Donald Lloyd Gothard, a 56-year-old Lusby resident who was employed by Maryland Environmental Services, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Maryland Natural Resources Police are investigating Gothard’s death.

Gothard logged in at the plant on Sunday morning, officials report. When he didn’t return home after his shift, his wife called police, who labeled him “critically missing” due to medical issues.

Gothard’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Baltimore for an autopsy, according to a natural resources spokesperson. A Maryland Occupational Safety and Health inspector was at the scene Monday morning.
