Red light cameras may flash but no tickets issued -- Gazette.Net

Law-abiding drivers in Montgomery County have noticed that red light traffic cameras are taking their picture — but they’re not getting a ticket.

Not to worry, say county officials.

“The cameras need to calibrate by releasing a flash, but that doesn’t mean drivers are getting a citation,” said Lucille Baur, a county spokeswoman.

Baur said the red light cameras use pucks in the ground that tell them to aim and prepare to take a photo when a vehicle is exceeding a threshold speed.

The county’s speed cameras, on the other hand, work differently and take a photo only if vehicles are going 12 mph or more over the speed limit.

A ticket from a red light camera costs $75; speed camera tickets cost $40.
