Rockville hires new recreation and parks director -- Gazette.Net


Rockville’s Recreation and Parks Department will soon get a new director.

The city has selected Timothy J. Chesnutt to head up the department, according to a city news release. Chesnutt has been the recreation and parks director for Jacksonville, N.C., since 2009. He starts his new job in Rockville March 3 with a salary of $149,000.

Rockville’s previous recreation and parks director, Burt Hall, retired in June 2012, and Christine Henry has served as acting director.

Chesnutt grew up in Maryland and has a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Towson University and a master’s degree in administrative management and public administration from Bowie State University. He was previously director of the Loudon Youth Initiative in Loudoun County, Va., and manager of recreation services for the Town of Herndon, Va. He has also worked in Arlington County, Va., and Anne Arundel County, according to a City of Rockville news release.
