Montgomery County police are investigating a shooting that took place Friday afternoon near the Gaithersburg Library.

A 17-year-old girl was injured in the shooting, but her injuries were non-life-threatening, Montgomery County Police Cpl. Rebecca Innocenti said.

Police believe the shooting was accidental, but are still gathering information.

The incident took place just before 1 p.m., near 18330 Montgomery Village Ave., according to Innocenti.

Police were talking to the girl and two other adults about the incident, she said.

“They’re still trying to determine exactly what happened,” she said.

Further details were not immediately available.
