The new Glenmont Metrocenter is taking shape, at least on the books, as Winchester Homes gains planning approval for a new townhouse development in the project.
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission members approved the first site plan for a townhouse community, the first development planned as part of the new Glenmont sector plan recently approved by the Montgomery County Council as an effort to revitalize that part of the county.
Winchester Homes, Inc. is set to develop the 171 townhouses located on the northwest corner of Glenallan Avenue and Layhill Road in Silver Spring. Winchester has not set price ranges for the proposed units.
This plan includes 16 benches, one tot lot, 14 bicycle parking spaces, 5,000 square feet of open play area, and 171 homes each with its own garage.
The Glenmont Metrocenter project zoning was approved on July 17, 2012, by the Montgomery County Council.
Developers have to present the next site plan phase to the planning board, but no date has been set.
