A Wednesday afternoon car crash in Waldorf sent a teenager to the hospital.

The driver of a Mercury Villager minivan was attempting a right turn onto St. Charles Parkway off Billingsley Road when she struck a 16-year-old girl from Waldorf on a bicycle, Charles County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson said. The girl had been trying to cross Billingsley. The driver is a La Plata resident, Richardson said.

The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. The girl was transported to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata with injuries that were not life-threatening, Richardson said.

It was not clear who had the right of way at the time of the accident. Richardson said the investigation is ongoing.
