More than 50 people came out Saturday for the Bunny Hop fun run in Poolesville, organized by Gail Lee.

Some participated in a one-mile run, others in a 5k. The run was free but participants were asked to donate canned goods to Western Upper Montgomery County Help, Inc. — a nonprofit that offers assistance to low-income residents.

Since participating in “The Biggest Loser” reality TV show with her daughter Lauren Lee in 2011, Lee has organized a number of fun runs over holiday weekends to get people out of the house and active. The one-mile run allows everyone to participate — there were a number of families with young children running or on tricycles, Lee said.

“I was always too heavy to be able to do any kind of physical activity with my children growing up,” she said. Now she’s trying to stay fit and encourage others to be active. “I think it’s so important to lead by example,” she said.

At the finish line, Lee handed out candy-filled Easter eggs.

Regulars at Lee’s runs, Bernie and Kathy Mihm were the first two to finish the 5k. Lee’s daughter Lauren, 28, and another “Biggest Loser” participant, Cassandra Sturos of Manassas, Va. were also at the run.
