After discovering toxic levels of cocaine, acetaminophen and codeine in the body of a 3-year-old, police have arrested the boy’s father, who faces first-degree child abuse and manslaughter charges.

Thomas Everett Holland, 38, of the 7600 block of Allendale Drive in Palmer Park, was arrested Thursday in connection to the death of his 3-year-old son, said officer Harry Bond, a county police spokesman.

On Jan. 26 at about 8:30 a.m., Holland drove his child to the United Medical Center in Southeast Washington, D.C., for treatment, Bond said. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital and autopsy and toxicology tests were performed, he said.

The results of those tests, returned recently, led authorities to believe they weren’t ingested accidentally, Bond said.

Holland was arrested without incident and remains in custody at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections, Bond said.

Holland has not been assigned an attorney, according to online Maryland court records.
