A Mechanicsville woman died Thursday evening when she was thrown from a car she was driving on Route 242 south of Clements, authorities report, as the vehicle went out of control, became airborne after striking a ditch embankment and overturned.
Amber Dawn Jarboe, 22, was traveling south on the highway at 6:53 p.m. that day, according to the St. Mary’s sheriff’s office, when the 2010 Kia Forte crossed the centerline, and she overcorrected its course before the car left the roadway. Jarboe, who was unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle before it struck a tree. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
A 3-year-old boy also riding in the vehicle was taken to a hospital, the sheriff’s office reports, to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Jarboe worked as a wellness consultant at Massage Envy in Waldorf, according to an obituary, and was planning to resume college studies to pursue a degree in social work, with a focus on counseling.
Alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the collision, according to a sheriff’s office release from the preliminary investigation.
The sheriff’s collision reconstruction team continued its review this week of the crash, and the agency has requested that anyone who may have witnessed the accident contact Cpl. Brian Connelly at 301-475-4040.
