Accident occurred Sunday on private road
A 15-month-old child died after being struck by a car Sunday afternoon in Waldorf.
At 4 p.m. June 15, Nathanial J. Penn was struck by a car in the 10000 block of Lyles Place in Waldorf, according to preliminary information from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office,
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Diane Richardson said at the time of the incident family members took the boy to the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department Station 12 in Westlake, where paramedics attended to the boy.
Richardson said the firehouse is less than a mile from the scene of the accident. Paramedics then transported the boy via ambulance to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Richardson said the child was struck on a private roadway, and there is no indication at this time that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident. Richardson said it is unclear exactly how the child was struck, but at this time there is no evidence that there was any gross negligence.
The sheriff’s office traffic operations unit is investigating.
