Montgomery County police have charged a man with stabbing and seriously wounding another man on Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Thursday.

Police said in a news release that Ulises A. Blanco-Melgar, 31, was charged with one count apiece of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

The news release says Blanco-Melgar has no fixed address, but Maryland’s online court system shows him having a Hyattsville address.

A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for July 18. There was no attorney listed for him.

Police said they were called to a second-floor apartment in the 8200 block of Piney Branch Road on Thursday, shortly after midnight. The apartment is above the El Sitio Restaurant.

Officers found a man in a hallway with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds. Police said he was taken to a hospital; the injuries were considered life threatening. Police did not identify the victim.

A witness drove after a man who ran from the scene, then guided police to him, the news release says.
