Music lovers will have three more chances to catch a free evening of entertainment as Rockville continues its summer “Free for All in the Parks” concert series on Thursdays.

The series will continue this week with the Americana sounds of the Bumper Jacksons performing at the Rockville Senior Center.

Rockville’s Free for All in the Parks

• Bumper Jacksons: 2 p.m. Thursday, Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Drive.

• Dave Thomen: 7:30 p.m. July 17, Lincoln Park Community Center, 357 Frederick Ave.

• James Mabry: 7:30 p.m. July 24, Calvin Park, 1248 Gladstone Drive.

Cost: Free.

Information: Julie Farrell, 240-314-8682 or jfarrell@rockvillemd.gov.

On July 17, magician Dave Thomen will perform at the Lincoln Park Community Center, and blues guitarist James Mabry will perform at Calvin Park on July 24.

Because the events are neighborhood concerts, they’re held at different parks and sites around the city, said Julie Farrell, arts program specialist for the city.

The concerts are a chance to get neighbors out together and have fun, she said.

Organizers try to find family-friendly performers who can appeal to all age groups for the long-running series, Farrell said.

The Bumper Jacksons performed last year, but Farrell said the group was so enjoyable that she decided to invite it back.

“I dare you to keep your toes from tapping” to the group’s sound that mixes styles from New Orleans to Appalachia, she said.

Farrell said Thomen knows how to make children laugh with his magic and illusions while also entertaining their parents.

Mabry will perform an acoustic show with guitar and harmonica. The bluesman can play “anything and everything,” Farrell said.
