Fire marshal, police investigate Friday blaze
A townhouse fire Friday in Waldorf that caused $175,000 in damage was set on purpose, according to a report from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Volunteers from 10 fire stations responded to the 3:47 a.m. blaze July 11 in the 2500 block of Hatteras Circle in the Holly Station neighborhood.
No one was home at the time the fire was discovered by neighbors. Three other occupied homes sustained damage from smoke, and the families are being relocated by the housing complex, according to the report from fire marshals J. Nelson and D. Brenneman. The report said an unknown person set the “incendiary” fire.
Smoke alarms were present in the home and activated.
Fifty-five firefighters from Waldorf, La Plata, Bel Alton, Baden, Accokeek, Brandywine, Clinton, Bryans Road, Marlboro and Hughesville volunteer fire departments responded. They had the fire under control in 40 minutes.
Anyone with information about the fire should contact 443-550-6833.
