A Nanjemoy man died about 5 p.m. Saturday after he was thrown from a motorcycle at Hawthorne Road at Lower Wharf Road in Indian Head.
Troopers on the scene reported that a 1985 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Alton James “Bobby” Bowie III, 32, was heading east on Hawthorne Road — Route 225 — when he lost control of the cycle and struck the curb and then a mailbox post.
The Harley continued across westbound Hawthorne Road and hit an unoccupied parked 1999 Nissan Altima in the parking lot of Lone Star Café.
Bowie was thrown from the cycle and came to rest against the Nissan, the Maryland State Police reported.
The motorcycle continued and struck an occupied black 2008 Honda Accord parked in the lot.
Bowie was pronounced dead at the scene, MSP reported.
The driver of the parked Honda Accord, Paul Alton Dunnington Jr. of Waldorf, was not injured. Police did not provide Dunnington’s age.
The crash is still being investigated.
Witnesses to the accident are asked to contact trooper M. Zentkovich of the MSP La Plata barrack at 301-392-1200.
This is the seventh traffic fatality in the county this year, the second involving a motorcycle.
