La Plata library held “Hop on the Bus” on Aug. 14, a program that allowed children an opportunity to overcome the anxiety of riding a school bus for the first time. Many of the children were getting ready to start school for the first time, according to a news release from the library. The children listened to stories about school and buses, received books and stickers and played games.

After the stories, parents and children boarded school Bus 529, driven by John Pickeral of Compton Bus Services of Port Tobacco, and went on a bus ride to Mary H. Matula and Walter J. Mitchell elementary schools.

The program was attended by more than 40 parents and children.

The library plans to hold the program next year, the release states.
