Horseshoes scheduled
Horseshoes will be played at Loffler Senior Activity Center on Thursdays in July and August at 10 a.m. There’s no need to sign up – just bring a lucky arm on Thursday, July 10.
Pantry bingo slated
As prices of food and related items begin to soar, what better way to spend a morning than to play pantry bingo at the Garvey Senior Activity Center on Monday, July 7, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The cost of $1 for three cards includes 15 games. Call Brandy at 301-475-4200, ext. 1062 to make your reservation for lunch after the games.
Lasso Golf coming to Garvey
Lasso Golf is played with two or more players or teams. Each player has three golf ball bolas. A bola is two golf balls attached by a nylon rope. The object of the game is to wrap the bolas around the steps of the ladder. Join in on this fun yet competitive game at the Garvey Senior Activity Center on Tuesday, July 8, at 9:30 a.m. Call Brandy at 301-475-4200, ext. 1062 for more information.
Washers to be played
Washers is a game of skill, similar to horseshoes, in which individuals or teams compete against one another in an effort to be the first to reach a winning score of 11, 17 or 21 points.
The game consists of two washer pits located opposite one another, each with a recessed cup. Contestants stand in one pit and throw washers toward the cup in the other pit. The object is to land in the cup, or nearest the cup, to score. Games will be played at the Garvey Senior Activity Center on Thursday, July 10, at 10 a.m. For more information call Brandy at 301-475-4200, ext. 1062.

‘Treasures Beneath the Soil’program set for July 10
On Thursday, July 10 at 11 a.m., the Hands-on-History series will present ‘Treasures Beneath the Soil’ at the Northern Senior Activity Center. See how lost possessions of yesteryear can provide valuable information today. This presentation will show how archaeologists can use artifacts to study people from the past. Walk-ins are welcome.
Summertime bingoscheduled at Northern
On Tuesday, July 8, at 10 a.m., Summertime bingo will be held in addition to the Friday bingos at the Northern Senior Activity Center. Cost is $1 per person. Walk-ins are welcome. Stay for a turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich on wheat bread, with fruit cocktail for lunch. Reserve your lunch by noon the day before, by calling 301-475-4002, ext. 1005. The cost for lunch is by donation for seniors 60 and older; $4 for individuals under 60.
Rita’s ice cream socialdeadline is July 10
On Friday, July 11, at 1 p.m., celebrate National Ice Cream Day at the Northern Senior Activity Center. Come for rich and delicious Rita’s Italian custard and ice for only $1.50. Call 301-475-4002, ext. 1001 to sign up at least 24 hours in advance.
