Darlands make dean’s lists
Melissa Darland has been named to the dean’s list at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky.
She is a junior at the university, majoring in graphic design and earned a 3.75 average (on a 4.0 scale) during the fall semester.
Before transferring to Eastern Kentucky, Darland spent two years at the College of Southern Maryland, where she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society.
Michael Darland has been named to the dean’s list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. To qualify for the honor, students must take at least 12 credits and obtain at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
He is a senior at Rensselaer, majoring in mechanical engineering. He previously attended CSM and New Mexico Tech before being selected for a Navy ROTC scholarship to attend Rensselaer.
Both Melissa and Michael are the children of Kim and Charlye Darland of Leonardtown and were homeschool graduates.
Wassink recognized
Faith Wassink of Leonardtown received an award at College of Notre Dame of Maryland’s Notre Dame Day celebration on Feb. 12.
Wassink was recognized for receiving the NCAA Sportsmanship Award, which is given to a student-athlete who is a positive role model in sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
Salisbury announces honors
Twenty-seven St. Mary’s County students were named to the dean’s list at Salisbury University for the fall 2007 semester.
California-area students included Susan Bauserman, Stacy Fennimore, Jodi Gleisner and Laura Plath.
Hollywood-area students included Hillary Essington, Joshua Ferguson and Kyle Garner.
Leonardtown-area students include Kevin Dallaire, Ellen Cohn, Rebecca Norris and Brianna Shaw.
Lexington Park-area students include Marubeth Copeland, Elinor Lampo, Jason Long, Michael Malone and Alyssa Price.
Mechanicsville-area students include Kimberle Baker, Nicole Bishop, Lauren Cook, Michael Lay, Amanada Nimmerrichter, Lyann Piras, Steven Price, Emily Roache and Kori Zollinhofer. Other students named to the list include Lauren Shumaker of Charlotte Hall and Esha Greer of Great Hall.
At Salisbury, approximately 7,500 students in 42 undergraduate and 13 graduate programs pursue liberal arts and professional degrees.
