TALK OF THE TOWN
Market days are here again
At one time, Port Tobacco was a bustling town of an estimated 200 structures, two newspapers, shops and three hotels — including one with a room that could hold up to 250 people. “It was huge, large international shipping port, second only to St. Mary’s City,” said Kay Volman, a past president of the Society for the Restoration of Port Tobacco, who moved to the town in 1974, raising a family in historic Chimney House. “Baltimore didn’t exist.”
