TALK OF THE TOWN
More than 45 members of Huntingtown United Methodist Church gathered together on Monday, July 29, to harvest 1,080 pounds of potatoes and turnips from HUMC’s “Feed the Hungry Hearts and Souls” garden. Potatoes that were harvested were provided to the Calvert Churches Community Food Pantry and Farming 4 Hunger in Prince Frederick, a press release states. Members of HUMC have been partners with and donating food to the Calvert Churches Community Food Pantry for over 22 years, the release states. However, with an economy that has been so hard on local Calvert County residents and with over 10,000 families now relying on local food pantries for their meals, the church felt it was important to do even more. HUMC Garden Coordinator Dan Yoder said in the release, “God calls us to feed the hungry both physically and spiritually.”
