A Charlotte Hall woman died after she was struck Sunday evening by a pickup truck and thrown into a snow bank, police report, on a road in the northern St. Mary's community.
Virginia Burch, 61, was walking east on the westbound side of Mohawk Drive at about 6:44 p.m. Sunday when she was hit by the eastbound 2004 Toyota Tundra, according to St. Mary's sheriff's deputies. The truck was traveling in the middle of the road, which has no lane markings on its pavement at that location, deputies report.
A Maryland State Police helicopter crew flew Burch to the Prince George's Hospital Center, where she died from her injuries, the sheriff's office reports. The driver of the pickup truck, 40-year-old Robert Nelson Jr. of Charlotte Hall, was not injured.
The sheriff's office has requested that anyone witnessing the accident call deputy Timothy Reese at 301-475-4200, ext. 9115.
