Soccer tryouts

The Southern Maryland Futbol Club will be representing the State of Maryland as part of the United Soccer League through its participation in the Super Y league in 2008. Four girls teamsÊare now forming between U-13 and U-17.Ê

SMFC will play in a newly re-aligned Mid-Atlantic Region, stretching from Washington D.C. north to the metro New York City area and to Northern New Jersey. Calvert assistant lacrosse coach needed

Beach spring lacrosse registration

Calvert American Little League baseball and softball will hold registration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Prince Frederick Wal-Mart and from 1 to 4 p.m. at Plum Point Middle School and Calvert Middle School. Cal Ripken⁄Babe Ruth baseball and softball

Registration for Cal Ripken⁄Babe Ruth baseball and softball will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 23 at the Solomons and St. Leonard firehouses. Tryouts are March 15 at Cove Point Park. For more information, visit www.syboptimist.com.

Patuxent field hockey breakfast

The Patuxent High field hockey team will hold a fundraising breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 24 at the American League Post in Lusby. The Post is located at the corner of Old Solomons Island Road and Rousby Hall Road. The breakfast will feature a wide array of items. The fee is $7 per person, $6 for seniors over 60 and $5 for children aged 4–7. Children under age 3 will be admitted free with paid adult. .

AAU tryouts

AAU basketball tryouts for the Pax River Silver Stars will be from 2 to 4 p.m. March 1 at St. Mary’s Ryken High School for boys 12U (1995 and later) and girls 14U (1993 and later or July 1, 1992 and later) teams. Tryouts for girls 12U teams (1995 and later or July 1, 1994 and later) will be from 3 to 5 p.m. March 8 at Carver Recreation Center.

Tryouts for girls 16U teams (1991 and later and 1990 with one year of high school eligibility) will be from 2 to 4 p.m. March 15 at St. Mary’s Ryken. There is a $14 non-refundable tryout fee. Softball clinic

The SYB Optimist Fastpitch Softball program, along with the Washington Glory pro softball team, will hold a softball clinic from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 2 at Patuxent High. Clinics are from 10 a.m. to noon (10-U), 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. (14-U) and 3 to 5 p.m. (18-U). The fee is $50 per session. NCLL registration

The Northern Calvert Little League is currently holding registration for baseball and softball for the spring season. Players must be between 4 and 16 years of age. Patuxent Pi Mile Trail Run

The Patuxent High cross country and math teams will hold a Pi Mile Trail Run at 8 a.m. March 15 at Patuxent High.

The 3.14-mile run is open to all ages. The fee is $20 ($10 for students under 18) before March 2 but $10 more after that and includes a tee shirt. Race day registration is possible, but T-shirts can not be guaranteed.

Northern golftournament

Northern High will hold a golf tournament at 8 a.m. March 24 at South River Golf Course. The format will be scramble with a shotgun start. The fee is $100 per person and includes green fees, cart, breakfast and lunch. Teams can also sign up for one of several sponsorships. Individuals or teams welcome. Solomons Fishing Fair

The Southern Maryland chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishermen’s Association is hosting the 15th annual Solomons Fishing Fair at the Solomons firehouse from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 29 and 30. Admission is a $2 donation per person. Refreshments will be available and door prizes will be drawn.

Patuxent baseball camp

The Patuxent varsity baseball team will hold a baseball camp from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays from March 30 to April 6 at the Patuxent High baseball field. The camp is open to players ages 7 to 14. Youth baseballtournament

The Charles County Youth League is extending an invitation to youth travel and in-house baseball teams to participate in the 2008 Charles County Classic 10U Baseball Tournament. It will be played April 4 to 6 at the Laurel Springs Park in La Plata. All players must be 10 or younger on April 30, 2008.
