The Lions are a part of the Diamond Football League’s Mid-Atlantic division. The DFL has teams from New York to Florida and is expanding every year. All players must be residents of the county team they play for.
The games are played in what is known as scout season, so players can be exposed to various scouts from the college and professional levels. Thirty-eight players were invited to various professional level training camps from the DFL last year.
On Dec. 30, Clayton Banner, commissioner of the Independent Indoor Football Alliance traveled to look at eight of the Lions players. The Lions are proud to announce that Commissioner Banner took three of their players to play at the professional football level. They are Jonathan Delozier, Titus Green and Lorenzo Parker. All three are currently in Galveston, Texas practicing with the Texas Tidalwave, an IIFA team. Robert Matthews and Brandon Reece were also offered spots, but turned them down because of family considerations.
The entire team of 40 players, eight coaches and many fans traveled to Pittsgrove, N.J. on Feb. 16 to participate in the Diamond Football League’s annual Jamboree. The Lions played in exhibition matches against nine other DFL teams and tied for first against the Gloucester County Generals. The Generals will be visiting the Lions at 2 p.m. March 22 for a rematch.
This is the Lions’ flagship season and it has been exciting. The support of the Charles County community has been very good.
On Feb. 23, about 20 players were at Modell’s in Waldorf where they gave out over 150 autographed team pictures and schedules.
