Women's commission plans Tubman celebration

The Charles County Commission for Women will host "A Tribute to Harriet Tubman" celebrating Women's History Month from 6 to 8 p.m. March 12 in Bel Alton.
The free public community program for adults and students features a lecture, gallery exhibit and buffet dinner.
"Harriet Tubman – Meet the Woman" lecture stars actress Gwendolyn Briley Strand and is made possible with funds from the Maryland Humanities Council.
Known as the "Moses of Her People," Tubman led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom by way of the Underground Railroad. She served in the Union Army as both a spy and a scout during the Civil War and nursed the contraband and black soldiers in Washington, D.C., and. Tubman repeatedly risked her life fighting for the freedom that the Constitution guarantees all Americans.
Seating is limited and registration is required. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Sign language interpretation is available upon two weeks advance request.
