Patuxent senior Colleen Ursic, who placed third in the 200-meter freestyle at the 4A-3A state meet, is the All-County girls swimmer of the year.

Athlete of the year

Patuxent senior freestyler

Resume: In 200 free, placed third at conference meet (2 minutes 14.92 seconds), second at the 3A-2A-1A South regional meet (2:13.32) and third at the 3A-2A-1A state meet in 2:14.36; in the 500 free, was third at the SMAC meet with a 6:07.11 and was second at the regional meet (6:06.02); finished off her high school career with an 11th-place finish (6:07.99) at the state meet; helped 400 free relay squad to second-place finishes at the conference and regional meet and a sixth-place showing at the state meet.

Patuxent (second season)

Resume: With 12 underclassmen, the Panthers finished regular season 10-2; 2-0 in meets decided by 10 points or less; defeated McDonough by 92 points and Lackey by 79; 3-0 against county teams with average margin of victory of 40 points; finished third at SMAC meet with 329 points and second at 3A-2A-1A South regional meet with 282 points (6.5 back of winner Kent Island); at 3A-2A-1A state meet, placed ninth.

First team

50 free: Amy Lacosse, Northern senior

Runner-up at the SMAC (26.57, 0.33 back of first) and 3A-2A-1A South regional meets (26.39, less than a second back); at the 3A-2A-1A state meet, placed eighth in 26.56.

100 free: Lacosse

Third at SMAC (1:00.74), seventh at 3A-2A-1A South regional (1:02.55) and took 10th at the 3A-2A-1A state meet (1:01.06).

200 free: Ursic

500 free: Ursic

100 back: Courtney Parkes,Patuxent sophomore

In just her second season of swimming and despite not swimming on a summer or club team, was undefeated during regular season; second at SMAC (1:07.02) and 3A-2A-1A South regional (1:07.56) meets; Fourth place finisher at 3A-2A-1A state meet with school record.

100 breast: Parkes

Runner-up at 3A-2A-1A South regional meet with school record 1:15.68 and added a fourth place finish at the 3A-2A-1A state meet with a 1:16.34.

100 fly: Kara Klem, Northern junior

11th at SMAC (1:17.10), seventh at 3A-2A-1A South regional meet (1:14.46) and clocked a 1:13.65 to place 15th at the 3A-2A-1A state meet.

200 IM: Alexis Balinski, Patuxent sophomore

Seventh at SMAC (2:42.31), third at 3A-2A-1A South regional meet (2:39.88) and 17th at 3A-2A-1A state meet (2:41.55).

200 medley relay: Patuxent (Parkes, Balinski, Ursic, Hannah LeForge)

Fifth at SMAC (2:07.87), fourth at 3A-2A-1A South regionals (2:07.43) and eighth at 3A-2A-1A state meet in school record 2:07.42.

200 free relay: Northern (Hannah LeForge, Jenny Ryon, Katie Gitlin, Kaitlin Gray)

Fifth at SMAC (1:56.15), sixth at 3A-2A-1A South regionals (1:57.61) and took 10th at 3A-2A-1A state meet (1:56.41).

400 free relay: Patuxent (Ursic, Parkes, Balinski, Rebecca Blitch)

Runner-up at the SMAC (4:12.56) and 3A-2A-1A South regional meets (school record 4:08.26); finished with sixth-place showing at 3A-2A-1A state meet (4:11.88).

Honorable mentions

100 breast: Katie Roof, Calvert senior

100 fly: Jordyn Goddard,Huntingtown junior
