Fire damages home off Golden Beach Road

The charred remains of a garage and car sit outside a Golden Beach area home the day after a Friday afternoon blaze, which the state fire marshal's office reports was caused by an electrical malfunction in a refrigerator. Damage to Patricia Coombs' home on Huntt Road and its contents was estimated at $300,000, and 50 Mechanicsville, Hollywood, Benedict and Hughesville volunteer firefighters battled the blaze for 45 minutes to bring it under control. The displaced family is being assisted by relatives.
