Thank goodness Gov. Martin O'Malley has done a good and fair thing by appointing Frank Lancaster to the vacancy as judge of the orphans court.
When I say a fair move, I mean that I know of no other Democrat at the moment who is more deserving of this appointment than Frank Lancaster.
Frank has been a devoted worker for the party for more than 40 years as I have found out, and I have known of him for the past 20 years and have had reason to know him better in the past five years.
I have been invited to several of his Democratic Party monthly meetings and have had a good chance to observe him in his active role as president of his Democratic club.
I want to tell you I have never seen a more courteous and considerate person, as he introduces his guest speaker for that particular meeting.
And his door has always been open to any and all candidates. I am even willing to believe that Frank would be equally as welcoming and courteous to members of other parties if they asked to address his party.
And as far as this fallacy of whether he is able to do this job or not, he has the basics — intelligence, patience, fair-mindedness and a sense of good judgment. All he has to do is implement the court's rules and regulations, and he will succeed.
And as you all know, the governor has the right to appoint whomever he sees fit.
