Teachers honored by archdiocese

Three Catholic school teachers in Charles County were honored recently for excellence in teaching and commitment to education.
Elizabeth Watson ,who has taught, math, religion and science at St. Peter's School in Waldorf; Carrie Brooke-Ptack, a prekindergarten teacher at St. Mary's School in Bryantown; and Barbara Costa, a fourth-grade teacher at Archbishop Neale School in La Plata were all nominated by their colleagues, parents, and students.
According to a release from the Archdiocese of Washington, the three teachers are among 10 recipients of the first annual Golden Apple Awards.
Recipients received a $5,000 prize, a golden apple, pin and certificate at the awards dinner May 7.
Other Southern Maryland award recipients were Ellen Boyd of Father Andrew White School in Leonardtown and Barbara Skane of St. John School in Hollywood.
